Own An Auto Shop? Why You Should Consider Garage Insurance Coverage

After I was involved in a large auto accident a few years ago, I realized that I was about to become innately familiar with the claims process. Sure enough, within a few months I started to receive paperwork regarding my accident, and it was really interesting to see how my insurance company handled things. I was able to save a tremendous amount of money by talking with agents about covered and non-covered claims, and it really opened up my eyes about the entire insurance coverage process. If you own an auto garage, then you know just how important it is for you to keep everything safe. Similar to getting homeowner's insurance for your house, you can purchase garage insurance coverage for your auto shop garage. But why exactly should you do that and what will it cover? This article will take a closer look at a few reasons. Read on.

1. Theft

As much as we like to think that nothing will happen to our things, theft does happen and that's the last thing you want at your auto shop. Because your auto shop is filled with so many unique and expensive tools, it would be a small fortune to replace all of them if they were to get stolen, right? Well, when you have garage insurance coverage, it will protect all of your tools and equipment inside of your garage just in case someone were to break in and steal them.

2. Damage

Things are bound to get damaged and mostly on accident. When you have a lot of mechanics in your shop and when you even have customers that are around your shop, things can get damaged on accident. For instance, someone could accidentally back into your garage door or drive through it, and your garage liability insurance would cover that damage.

3. Fire

Fires happen, especially when you are working around cars, oil, and other types of machinery. Although you and your mechanics are trained well enough to avoid setting things on fire, accidents happen or sometimes things just happen out of the blue. Whether it's a small fire or a large fire, your insurance should cover the fire and smoke damage so that you don't have to pay for it out of pocket. To help protect your garage against a fire, you can get garage liability insurance that will cover it.

If you want to keep your garage as safe and protected as possible, then make sure that you invest in some garage liability insurance. This type of insurance will keep your garage, equipment, and tools shielded and protected against theft, damage, and fire. When you meet with your agent, they will discuss anything else that your insurance will cover so that you know exactly what is protected by it. Additionally, they will discuss your deductible with you and how much that will be. If you can, try to get an insurance policy with a lower deductible.
